CS371p Fall 2020: Amit Samuel
What did you do this past week?
This past week was pretty mundane in the way of class work. But that allowed me to prepare for some of the interviews I have this week. I was able to properly allocate my time for the topics I wanted to refresh. Other than that, I didn’t do much else.
What’s in your way?
Ironically, the only thing in my way is recruiting. After my Summer internship, I was only given until September 30th to accept the return offer. So I’ve been scrambling to explore my options before then. I’m excited for that 9/30 deadline so I can stop worrying about recruiting.
What will you do next week?
Next week, I plan to spend a lot of time working on the new lab. I also plan on relaxing a bit and catching up on some sleep. Career fair is this week, so I will be attending that on Wednesday during class. I hope Dr.Downing gives us a pass that day. I’m a Pod mentor and my peas have their first exam this week, so I will also be preparing them for that.
What was your experience of exceptions, voting, and strcmp? (this question will vary, week to week)
I have minimal experience with exceptions. So Dr.Downings recent classes have been very helpful. I don’t know if voting is a computer science term I missed from Friday’s lecture, or actual voting. Either way, my first elections were the last presidential one in 2016 and the 2018 midterm. And I plan to vote in this election. I have quite a lot of experience with strcmp. I’ve used C pretty extensivley in the past.
What made you happy this week?
Not a whole lot made me happy this week. I’ve just been tired. The only real thing that brought me joy was remembering how cool CS topics are while I was struggling to prepare for my interview, and watching the “Legend of Korra” with my girlfriend.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
My pick of the week would be completeing my first assignment in Modern Web Applications. Within the first week, I was able to create an application that queried requests for locations and information for libraries in Austin. I was really openned up to a whole new world and set of ideas by just doing this fairly simple project. I get to see and understand so many new python libraries and techniques that allow us to have instant access to information on the internet.
