CS371p Fall 2020: Amit Samuel
What did you do this past week?
This past week was spent recovering from the last two weeks of midterms. That meant finishing assignments, starting assignments that I had been putting off, and skipping last weeks blog and paper to complete sed work. The rest of the week will be spent starting the new assignments that I am now all caught up for. I was able to get a day to just relax, but after that, it was quickly back to work.
What’s in your way?
Honestly, nothing really was in my way, it was just the sheer amount of work and poorly timed assignment due dates that got in my way. This week I will have a much better plan for accomplishing work now that exams are over.
What will you do next week?
This week I will be able to start the Darwin lab. I’m excited for this lab. I did something similar to this in CS 312, but it will be interesting ot see how we handle this in C++. I’ll be able to create certain functionality that had been given to me in CS 312.
If you read it, what did you think of Ethical CS?
I did not read it, however, I happen to be in CS 349 right now and its a class that I thoroughly enjoy. A lot of the topics we’re discussing now are very similar to the topics that those two professors were teaching. Throughout the class my current perception of tech is constatly challenged, and I realize things aren’t exactly as they seem with technology.
What was your experience of lambdas, initializations, std::initializer_list, and std::vector? (this question will vary, week to week)
When compared to java, C++ has many ways of initializing objects. In some ways I can see how these can be useful, but I’m excited to see the power of using multiple constructors for different objects.
What made you happy this week?
I’m an avid coin, rock, mug, and trading card collector, and this week I finally had a chance to polish some coins and unpack some trading cards I had been meaning to get it. Collecting things like these make me happy becasue each item invokes certian feeling and memeories that I enjoy thinking about.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
My pick of the week has got to be related to baseball. I was watching the world series the last couple of days, and couldn’t help but realize how much technology has made it’s way into many sports. There are so many new ways of tracking how good a player is by using tech, that today’s athlete has a wealth of knowledge that yesteryear’s athlete didn’t have.
